Welcome. I’m Angela Garvin. You’re here because you’re preparing for a big change in your life, and I’m here to help!
In 2004, my husband Brad and I were expecting our first baby. One morning he was watching the Today show and saw a segment about doulas. We were halfway through a 12 week birth class and he was feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything he needed to remember to be able to support me during labor. A few weeks later we found a doula who was a great match for us, and she supported us through our son Liam’s birth. Our birth experience was amazing and powerful–and an opportunity for self-growth in ways I hadn’t fully realized or imagined.
In 2006, our youngest son Beckett was born, and I left my job teaching elementary school and began training to become a full time doula and birth educator In 2012, I added support group facilitator to my services and have served hundreds of mothers & babies during weekly group meetings. Currently I serve as a Consultant to the Community Prenatal program with the University of Louisville Certified Nurse Midwives, and Birth Educator for the Tree of Life Family Birth Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
As a former elementary school teacher, I hold Bachelors & Masters degrees in Elementary Education. As a birth professional, I received my training from DONA (2006), The Bradley Method (2006) and Lamaze International (2009). Currently, I am a Lamaze Certified Birth & Parenting Educator. I’m proud to be affiliated with an organization that emphasizes the importance of evidence based information in maternity care. I believe in the importance of professional development, and attend conferences and seminars every year to expand my knowledge base.
When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my family and our West Highland White Terrier, Angus. I love taking care of the 60+ plants and 11 trees in my yard, walking in my neighborhood, riding roller coasters, going to Starbucks and watching & reading The Walking Dead.
