Please note: Classes will be held virtually, via Zoom.
Planning For Postpartum is one of the required classes for families who plan to birth at Tree of Life Family Birth Center. The other two classes are Orientation and Prenatal Breastfeeding (first time parents only). This is the registration page for Planning For Postpartum. You must register here in order to obtain materials and the link to access the virtual classroom for your class date and time. Please bookmark this page so that you can refer to this information should you have questions later. Thank you for understanding and for adhering to these guidelines.
Please take note: This class does not serve as preparation for natural birth–we will not learn about comfort measures, coping with labor, stages of labor, etc. Those concepts should be explored in a weekly independent childbirth class series.
Class registration is closed 24-48 hours before the class start date. If you need to join a class last minute and you missed the registration window, please email me immediately via the Contact Me page.
Please read the class guidelines carefully before registering:
- Attendance is limited to mothers (and their birth partners) who will be 30 weeks pregnant at the time of the class.
- You must attend Orientation and be accepted as a client at Tree of Life before you enroll in this class. If you need to attend Orientation, please contact the Woman Care office for guidance. The fee for this class comes from the payment that you make to Tree of Life for your birth; you do not need to pay a fee to register and you will not receive a separate bill.
- Birth partners are strongly encouraged to attend as we will go over information related to postpartum and newborn care in the first 48 hours after discharge from Tree of Life.
- You only need to register ONE time. Your registration includes your birth partner. Do not register more than once, please. Thank you!
- The link to enter the virtual classroom will be sent via email, 24-48 hours before your scheduled class. Handouts will be emailed at the same time (they do not need to be printed).
We will cover the following topics in class:
Signs of labor–when to call the midwife
When to come to the birth center
What you need to bring to the birth center & what you should have on hand at home for recovery
Postpartum care & self assessment after discharge
Planning for postpartum
Newborn procedures
If you are enrolled in the 6 week prepared birth series, Empowered Birth: Home/Birth Center class, Planning For Postpartum is waived as we will discuss all of the topics in that class over the 6 week series. Families are still required to attend Orientation and Prenatal Breastfeeding.
